Success!

Fourteen intrepid software developers and designers showed up to participate in Seattle’s first Palm Pre Dev Camp. Thanks to everyone who made this event a success, but especially to the fine folk at Office Nomads!

We’re going to set up a regular meetup for Seattle Pre developers; details to come in the next few weeks.

Seattle Venue And Times

Office Nomads, a coworking space on Capitol Hill, has kindly agreed to let us use their large conference room for Seattle PreDevCamp! Office Nomads is located at 1617 Boylston Ave on the second floor.

Camp will start promptly at 10:30AM this Saturday the 8th. There will be doughnuts in the morning, and we’ll order pizza later in the day. The space is available to us until around 3PM.

Remember that this is a hacker camp. Bring your laptop and make sure you have the WebOS SDK installed and ready to go. If you own a copy of the O’Reilly WebOS book, be sure to bring that too.

Cheers, and see you Saturday for some zany madcap hacking.

Seattle PreDevCamp UPDATE!

I discovered earlier today that Seattle was without a Pre Dev Camp organizer. So I went ahead and volunteered! This is very last minute for Seattle, of course, but I’m hoping that we can all work to pull this thing together by Saturday.

Our top priority right now is to find a venue. Most Pre camps are start at 10:30AM to ensure a full day of hacking; they’ll likely go into the afternoon or later. I’m open to any and all venue suggestions; please reply below. Ideal would be one of Seattle’s fine co-working spaces; as a back-up plan, I suggest that we could all meet at University Zoka Coffee, or possibly Uptown Espresso’s meeting room in Belltown.

If you’re planning to attend — and even if you don’t have a venue suggestion — please reply to this post so that I can get a rough sense of how many people will be there.

Cheers,

preDevCamp Is Go!

I just released a post on whurley.com entitled “Phone Warz: Revenge Of The Palm?” discussing how ever since I helped pull together iPhoneDevCamp with Raven Zachary and Chris Messina back in 06, Ive been hawking the other manufacturers looking for a legit challenge to the iPhones throne; secretly to have another event.

Anyway, I was discussing this whole scenario with @Giovanni and @DanCrumb this weekend, and we had quite an amusing round of what-ifs. We had so much fun bumpin our gums, we decided to up the ante. Today @Giovanni, @DanCrumb and I (@whurley) are launching preDevCamp 2009.

The event will be held in around 60 cities around the world exactly one week after the U.S. release of the Palm Pre. Since the phone is Linux+WebKit, development should be easy for us to share the love. Tell your friends. Invite your neighbors. Weve got satellite events lined up in over 30 cities around the world. If you want to enlist, visit the website and tell us your city. If theres not a leader in that city, then you just got promoted.
